Inglewood Council Honors Memory of Community Leaders and Young Jacob Leal

The Regular City Council meeting held on April 19, 2000, in Los Angeles began with a brief acknowledgment of Councilwoman Janice Hahn, who expressed gratitude for her time serving with the council until July 1. The meeting proceeded with a call for adjourning motions, which were confirmed by the Madam Clerk.

As the meeting progressed, the council lost its quorum, prompting discussions on adjourning motions. Council members took a moment to honor the memory of Virginia Marlowe, the wife of Harry Marlowe, a former chief deputy. Virginia, an educator at Inglewood High School, was remembered for her contributions to public life and her motivation to inspire students. Her memorial service is scheduled for the 25th at Saint Nicholas Catholic Church in Laguna Hills.

Additionally, the council paid tribute to Otis L. Wills, a dedicated city employee who served for 22 years in the community development department. Wills was instrumental in developing construction policies and played a key role in the rehabilitation of over 2,600 residential properties following the Northridge earthquake. He passed away unexpectedly at the age of 54. His services will be held on Saturday at Inglewood Park Cemetery.

Council member Pacheco also requested the council to adjourn in memory of Jacob Leal, a three-month-old infant who tragically passed away. Jacob is survived by his parents, Michelle and Michael Leon, who are part of a long-standing family of merchants on Alvaro Street.

The meeting concluded with a collective acknowledgment of the contributions and memories of those honored, reflecting the council's commitment to community and remembrance.
