A significant focus on crime prevention and law enforcement initiatives highlighted the Board of Directors Regular Meeting in The Woodlands on July 23, 2025. Captain Ryan Drody of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office presented a detailed report on crime trends and proactive measures taken to enhance community safety.
Drody noted that overall crime rates in Montgomery County are trending down, with calls for service remaining stable as the summer months approach. He emphasized the importance of proactive patrols, particularly around high-traffic areas like the town center and Market Street, where deputies have been deployed to deter crime. Since June 1, deputies have logged 314 hours of overtime, resulting in 11 arrests, including a notable traffic stop that led to the seizure of cocaine and over $6,700 in cash.
Assistant Chief Rick Bass further elaborated on the Sheriff's Office's proactive strategies, including the establishment of a crime reduction unit targeting "bank jugging"—a crime where offenders follow bank customers to steal their cash. This initiative has already led to eight arrests in Montgomery County, showcasing the effectiveness of collaboration with local law enforcement agencies.
Bass also highlighted ongoing traffic enforcement efforts, including Operation Safe Streets, which has resulted in numerous DWI arrests without any fatalities during recent holiday initiatives. The upcoming press conference on July 30, 2025, will further detail these efforts and reinforce the importance of community partnerships in combating crime.
The meeting underscored the commitment of local law enforcement to maintain safety and security in The Woodlands, with a clear focus on proactive measures and community engagement.
