University of Delaware Prepares for Student Move-In Days and Upcoming Events

The City Council of Newark, Delaware, held a meeting on July 28, 2025, where key discussions centered around the upcoming influx of university students and community events aimed at addressing local issues.

Caitlin, a representative from the University of Delaware, provided an update on the new student orientation, noting that the busiest move-in days for undergraduates will be from August 23 to August 25. Additionally, she mentioned the Blue Hen Helpers program, which assists students moving into dorms, and the various activities planned for the week leading up to the move-in dates.

Caitlin also announced two significant events: the Wizard of Oz performance by the UD Community Music School, scheduled for the first weekend of August, and a homelessness symposium on August 14. The symposium, organized by the Biden School and the Center for Community Research and Service, aims to discuss changes in homelessness issues within the state and local communities since last year.

Councilwoman Ford raised concerns regarding the rental market for new students, particularly for transfer students who may not be familiar with the leasing process in Newark. Caitlin assured her that the university provides guidance for off-campus rentals and will work with the transfer team to enhance support for students navigating housing options.
