Upland City Council Approves Business License Ordinance and Celebrates Community Events

The City Council of Upland made significant strides in community engagement and local business support during their recent meeting on July 28, 2025. A key decision was the unanimous approval of an ordinance amending Chapter 5.04 of the Upland Municipal Code, which pertains to business licenses. This change is expected to streamline the licensing process for local businesses, fostering a more supportive environment for entrepreneurs in the area.

In addition to legislative updates, the council celebrated local businesses, specifically King's Brewery and Crazy Green Boat Barbecue, which have seen increased patronage, indicating a thriving local economy. Mayor Pro Tem expressed excitement about the community's response, noting long wait times at these establishments as a positive sign of their popularity.

The meeting also highlighted recent community initiatives, including a successful bulky item collection and document shredding event organized by the Public Works Department. This event resulted in the collection of 22.3 tons of bulky items and 6,710 pounds of shredded material, serving nearly 400 residents. Such efforts not only help keep the community clean but also promote responsible waste disposal practices.

Furthermore, the Upland Public Library hosted a "Touch a Truck" event that attracted around 1,100 attendees, providing families with a fun and educational experience. The event served over 300 lunches, showcasing the library's commitment to community engagement and family-friendly activities.

Council Member Garcia also shared his experience at the Stryker's Kids Summer Soccer Camp, emphasizing the importance of youth programs in the community. This initiative aims to foster positive experiences for children and families in Upland, with hopes of establishing it as an annual tradition.
