The Clearwater Neighborhood & Affordable Housing Advisory Board convened on February 13, 2024, to discuss key updates and initiatives regarding affordable housing in the city. The meeting began with an invitation for public comments, but no attendees stepped forward to speak.
Director Lane provided a report highlighting several important developments. He noted that the board is currently down to six members following the departure of Carmen Santiago, who was recognized for her contributions and dedication to the board. Lane emphasized the importance of her service and the knowledge she brought to the community.
The director also discussed ongoing efforts to enhance the city’s website, which aims to improve accessibility to information regarding affordable housing. This initiative aligns with feedback received from the advisory board and is supported by a marketing manager who has recently expanded her role to assist in these efforts.
A significant topic of discussion was the Archway Project, an 81-unit affordable housing initiative that is currently awaiting final approvals. Lane reported that the project is progressing well, although it is experiencing delays due to pending analysis from HUD regarding subsidy layering. He expressed optimism about the project's future, stating that it is in good shape and ready to move forward.
Additionally, Lane announced the introduction of an extra meeting for the Technical Review Committee. This meeting will allow members to discuss applications prior to the upcoming NAHAB meeting in April, facilitating better preparation and communication among board members.
As the meeting concluded, board members expressed their commitment to advancing affordable housing projects in Clearwater. The next meeting of the Neighborhood & Affordable Housing Advisory Board is scheduled for March 12, 2024.
