DHS Deputy Biss Debunks Immigration Hoaxes Including Ice and Home Depot Claims

In a recent briefing, Lauren Biss, Deputy Assistant Secretary at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), addressed several false narratives circulating in the media. Biss emphasized the importance of setting the record straight on these misleading claims, which she described as harmful to the agency and its personnel.

One of the primary issues discussed was a hoax involving an immigration attorney, Trisha Chatterjee, who falsely claimed that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) provided her with a phone number to a Taco Bell. Biss clarified that this assertion was entirely untrue. She noted that ICE had attempted to contact Chatterjee to resolve any issues regarding her clients but received no response from her.

Biss also debunked claims that DHS has a contract with Home Depot, stating that such allegations are unfounded. She stressed that DHS does not inform businesses about targeted enforcement operations, defending the integrity of ICE agents who are currently facing a significant increase in assaults—reportedly up by 830%.

Additionally, Biss addressed accusations from members of Congress representing Sanctuary Cities, who claimed they were denied entry to a Baltimore ICE facility. She stated that these members could have easily scheduled a tour if they wished to visit. Biss explained that requests for visits to detention facilities must be made in advance to avoid interfering with the President's constitutional authority over executive functions.
