Global Deschines launches workforce development programs at Jamestown Public Schools and JCC

A groundbreaking workforce development initiative took center stage at the Jamestown City Council Work Session on August 4, 2025, as local leaders unveiled a dual-program approach aimed at equipping students with essential skills in the trades. John Gilligan from Global Deschines highlighted the collaboration with Jamestown Public Schools and Jamestown Community College (JCC) to create pathways for high school students and adults alike to enter skilled trades.

The program, which has already seen success with 18 students completing two cohorts, focuses on hands-on learning in construction technology. Gilligan noted that students are not only learning technical skills but also job-ready soft skills, crucial for securing employment in a competitive job market. “We’re excited about the progress and the opportunities this program provides,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of industry partnerships in shaping the curriculum.

With a capacity for 12 students per cohort, the program is set to kick off its fall session on September 16, incorporating feedback from previous classes to enhance the learning experience. Changes include a shift towards more practical, hands-on training and the integration of online learning platforms to accommodate varying schedules.

The initiative aims to address the ongoing shortage of skilled workers in the trades, with local employers already expressing interest in hiring graduates. Gilligan encouraged community members to spread the word about the program, which is made affordable through generous grant funding.

As the meeting progressed, discussions also touched on housing and safety, indicating a broader commitment by the council to address multiple community needs. The workforce program stands out as a significant step towards fostering economic growth and stability in Jamestown, setting the stage for future success in the local job market.
