Finney County Proclaims August 2025 as Election Worker Appreciation Week

Finney County has officially proclaimed August 11 through 17, 2025, as Election Worker Appreciation Week, recognizing the essential role of poll workers in maintaining the integrity of elections. During the Finney County Commission meeting on August 5, County Clerk Doree Munyon highlighted the often-overlooked contributions of these dedicated individuals, who manage polling places and assist voters, ensuring that elections are accessible and transparent.

The proclamation aims to honor the hard work of election workers, especially as many counties face shortages and increased pressures related to election management. Munyon emphasized the importance of public recognition in fostering civic pride and encouraging future recruitment, particularly for bilingual poll workers to better serve diverse communities.

In addition to the proclamation, the county plans various activities throughout the month to celebrate election workers, including sharing stories of long-serving poll workers on social media and hosting trivia events. This initiative not only boosts morale among current workers but also reinforces public trust in the electoral process.

Following the proclamation, the meeting shifted focus to a resolution regarding a proposed half-cent sales tax aimed at funding significant renovations to the Finney County Law Enforcement Center. Interim County Administrator Gary Meager outlined the facility's ongoing maintenance challenges and the need for a new standalone jail to address water damage issues. The proposed sales tax would finance the construction and improvements necessary for the facility, with a special election scheduled for November 4 to allow voters to decide on the measure.
