Kansas BSRB Enhances Psychologist Licensure Website and Supports Background Checks

The Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board (BSRB) has made significant strides in enhancing its operations and services, as highlighted during the Professional Counseling Advisory Committee meeting on August 4, 2025. A key achievement discussed was the recognition of the BSRB's website by the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB) for its user-friendly features and structured navigation. This acknowledgment underscores the board's commitment to providing accessible information for various licensed professions.

In addition to website improvements, the board is actively promoting the use of the CE Broker platform, which allows licensees to upload their continuing education documentation. Currently, about 11% of the 16,500 permanent licensees are utilizing this free service, which streamlines the audit process for compliance with continuing education requirements. The board aims to increase this adoption rate and is working on integrating the CE Broker system with the license renewal process to further simplify compliance for licensees.

The meeting also addressed legislative updates, particularly regarding background checks for licensure. The board is considering implementing background checks as a requirement for original licensure and reinstatement, aligning with multistate compact agreements that necessitate such measures. This move is seen as a step towards enhancing public protection and ensuring that licensed professionals meet safety standards.

Furthermore, the board is in the process of revising unprofessional conduct regulations across the seven professions it oversees. This initiative aims to create uniformity in regulations and improve the overall integrity of the licensing process.

Looking ahead, the BSRB is preparing for the launch of the Professional Counseling Compact, expected to go live later this fall. This compact will facilitate easier interstate practice for licensed counselors, with Kansas offering competitive fees for participation.
