Mayfield Heights Council Approves Traffic Cameras and Tobacco Store Regulations

Mayfield Heights City Council made significant strides in enhancing local infrastructure and regulations during their special meeting on August 4, 2025. The council approved a series of resolutions aimed at improving public safety and community services.

One of the key decisions was the approval of a contract with I2C Technologies Limited for the installation of access cameras at four city intersections. This initiative, funded by a state grant, aims to bolster traffic monitoring and safety. The council emphasized the importance of these cameras in supporting the police department's efforts to enhance public safety, although additional electrical work will be required beyond the grant's coverage.

In another resolution, the council authorized a change order with Fund Superior Sales Company Inc. This change pertains to additional items added to a previously approved squad vehicle, ensuring that the police department has the necessary resources to operate effectively.

The council also moved forward with the Ridgebury Boulevard resurfacing project, approving professional engineering services from GPD Group. This project, which will be conducted in coordination with Highland Heights, is expected to improve road conditions significantly. The Cuyahoga County Department of Public Works will contribute up to $250,000 towards the construction costs, highlighting regional collaboration on infrastructure improvements.

Additionally, the council enacted a new ordinance regulating retail tobacco and vapor stores. This legislation outlines definitions, location requirements, and penalties for violations, reflecting the council's commitment to public health and safety.
