Trinity School Plans Accessible Outdoor Space for Special Education Students

Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD is making significant strides in enhancing outdoor spaces for special education students at Trinity, following discussions in a recent called meeting. The district is prioritizing accessibility and engagement for its medically fragile students, particularly those in wheelchairs, by developing an outdoor area that includes flexible seating options and a garden space.

During the meeting, it was revealed that the outdoor space will feature wheelchair-accessible picnic tables and a wrought iron fence, ensuring a dignified environment for students. The design aims to provide a safe and engaging area where students can participate in gardening and other activities, similar to successful initiatives at North Euless.

The district has also implemented safety measures, including a delayed egress system, allowing staff time to respond if a student attempts to leave the building. This system is designed to meet fire safety standards while ensuring the well-being of students.

The meeting highlighted the collaborative efforts of school administrators and new coordinators to create an inclusive environment that meets the needs of all students.
