Greater Dayton RTA Introduces New Routes to Enhance Public Transit Access

The Riverside City Council meeting on August 5, 2025, featured a significant presentation by Kristy Newton, the Communications and Community Relations Manager for the Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority (RTA). Newton outlined upcoming route modifications aimed at enhancing public transit services in Montgomery County.

The RTA is set to launch two new bus routes on August 31, 2025. The first, an express route designated as X6, will connect Downtown Dayton to the National Museum of the United States Air Force. This route will operate daily from 8:45 AM to 5:15 PM, with buses arriving every 40 minutes. It will make stops at key locations, including recently opened hotels and Wright State University.

The second new route, Route 3, will focus on connecting residents to essential services such as grocery stores and medical facilities. This all-trolley route will run from the Easttown Transit Center through Downtown Dayton to Dayton Children's Hospital, operating from 6 AM to 6:30 PM, with a bus every 35 minutes.

Additionally, the RTA will implement changes to existing Routes 1 and 6, swapping their eastern endpoints to improve service frequency and connectivity without losing any service coverage.

Newton also highlighted the RTA's Connect On Demand service, which partners with rideshare companies like Uber and Lyft, allowing users to book rides within designated zones for a fee. Other services mentioned include paratransit options for individuals with disabilities and a program for seniors needing essential transportation.

The meeting concluded with a discussion on new bus stop signage, aimed at improving visibility and accessibility for riders. These changes reflect the RTA's commitment to enhancing public transit options and meeting the needs of the community.
