Maryland Commission Approves NextGrid's Orium Pro and IQ Pro Electric Meters

The Maryland Public Service Commission (PSC) held an administrative meeting on June 4, 2025, where a key topic of discussion was the approval of new electric meters from NextGrid LLC. The company requested authorization for its Arium Pro and IQ Pro solid-state electric meters, designed for both residential and commercial sub-metering applications in Maryland.

Michael Spielman, representing the PSC staff, outlined the regulatory requirements for electric meters, emphasizing that all devices must meet specific accuracy and record-keeping standards as mandated by the Public Utility Article. He noted that NextGrid had provided documentation confirming that their meters comply with the necessary NCC 12 standards, which govern electric meter performance.

NextGrid's CEO, Costa Apostolakis, highlighted the company's experience in the meter manufacturing industry and the innovative features of their new products. He explained that the meters offer enhanced safety and energy-saving capabilities, with advanced software that allows utilities to access detailed data, including one-minute interval readings. This feature is aimed at improving communication and operational efficiency for utility companies.

The commission unanimously approved NextGrid's request, allowing the Arium Pro and IQ Pro meters to be used in Maryland. Following the approval, the PSC will update its list of authorized devices on its website.
