Lacey City Council has taken significant steps to enhance support for service members and their families through a new local resource initiative. During the August 5, 2025, meeting, council members discussed a collaboration with Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) aimed at providing comprehensive assistance for various crises, including financial hardships and food insecurity.

The initiative centers around a newly developed website that consolidates available resources for service members and their families. This platform is designed to improve accessibility to essential services, ensuring that those in need can find help quickly and efficiently.

In addition to this resource, the council is actively working on improving operational protocols at the hub. Plans include reviewing and implementing a space use agreement, updating emergency action plans, and conducting staff training to enhance service delivery. A risk analysis will also be performed in collaboration with the Lacey Police Department to identify potential weaknesses in the hub's operations.

To further ensure the safety of clients, the council is prioritizing training for staff in emergency response, including the use of defibrillators and Narcan. Currently, the hub has one defibrillator on-site, but there is a pressing need for Narcan to be available for emergencies.

The council is also modernizing the appointment and sign-in process for clients, moving towards a more user-friendly online scheduling system. This change aims to provide greater predictability for clients seeking services.

Looking ahead, the council is developing strategic planning guidance for the hub that will extend through 2031, ensuring that the support system remains robust and responsive to the needs of the community.
