RISE Baking plans major expansion with new facility addition in North Provo

During the recent Planning Commission meeting held on August 7 in Pleasant View, Weber County, significant discussions centered around a proposed site plan amendment for RISE Baking, a local bakery manufacturing facility. The amendment seeks to expand the existing facility located at approximately 1400 West, 2700 North, nearly doubling its size with an addition of 116 square feet to the current 136,000 square feet.

The expansion is deemed a permitted use within the designated MP-1 zone, and the plans submitted have been reviewed by the Development Review Committee (DRC), which provided feedback and corrections. Notably, the expansion will include an increase in staff parking, adding approximately 96 new spaces to accommodate the growing workforce.

Colin Bodecki, the director of engineering for RISE Baking, emphasized the importance of this expansion for the company, which has been a staple in the community since 1994. He highlighted that the facility produces millions of pounds of buttercream icing and supplies cookie dough and frozen cookies to various fast-food chains and food service providers. The proposed expansion aims to enhance their production capabilities, particularly for pies, by introducing both unbaked and baked pie lines.

Additionally, the meeting addressed traffic considerations related to the expansion. The company is collaborating with the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) to conduct a traffic study, which will assess the ingress and egress at the facility's entrances. While no immediate changes to the traffic plan were proposed, adjustments may be made based on UDOT's findings.

The Planning Commission staff recommended approval of the site plan amendment, indicating that the proposal aligns with community development goals and meets all necessary requirements. As the community continues to grow, this expansion reflects the ongoing demand for local manufacturing and food production, positioning RISE Baking to better serve its clients and contribute to the local economy. The next steps will involve finalizing the traffic study and addressing any outstanding corrections from the DRC.
