Westmoreland IU Board Appoints New Directors and Elects Officers for Upcoming Year

Derry Area School District is experiencing a positive trend in student enrollment, as reported during the Board Meeting on August 7, 2025. Superintendent Mister Reed confirmed that enrollment numbers are projected to be up compared to last year, with an influx of ninth graders from neighboring districts, Latrobe and Ligonier, contributing to this growth. This increase is particularly significant for grades 10 to 12, which are crucial for the district's educational programs.

In addition to enrollment discussions, the meeting highlighted key administrative changes within the Westmoreland Intermediate Unit (IU). Mister Shaw reported the appointment of Doctor Lauren Cunningham as the new Curriculum and Professional Learning Services Director and Doctor Rebecca Henderson as the Educational Enterprise Services Director. This restructuring separates the previous combined role into two distinct positions, aimed at enhancing educational oversight.

The IU also elected new officers for the upcoming year, with Dallas Leonard continuing as president and Jennifer Bridal as vice president. Doctor Fike was appointed as the new secretary, following the resignation of the long-serving secretary, while Tammy Goode remains the treasurer.

Looking ahead, the next meetings for the district and IU are scheduled for August 27 and August 26, respectively, inviting community members to participate and stay informed about ongoing developments. The policy committee is set to meet on August 13 to review proposed revisions to policy 217, which will be available for public access on the district's website.
