The City of Clovis is ramping up its commitment to environmental cleanliness and community engagement, as highlighted in a recent City Commission meeting. The discussion centered around the impressive results of the city’s beautification efforts, which included a series of successful events aimed at promoting public health and environmental awareness.

Over the past year, Clovis has exceeded its grant requirements by hosting four reusable bag distribution days, a public health awareness day, and a town hall focused on clean conversations. The city also organized three campus cleanups and collaborated with EPCOR during their water carnival, where students learned about recycling and the importance of litter control. In total, these initiatives mobilized 400 volunteers, resulting in the collection of over 300 tons of trash and 4,400 pounds of tires.

Looking ahead, the city has secured another year of funding through the Kalinda grant, thanks to a strong application from city staff. Plans are in place to enhance the disposal infrastructure by adding more trash cans and dumpsters, responding to community feedback that accessibility is key to encouraging proper waste disposal.

Future initiatives will include expanding community cleanup programs, introducing an anti-litter mascot for educational purposes, and developing a business adoption program to incentivize local businesses to maintain clean environments.
