Broomfield Expands Easy Ride Transit Service for Seniors and Disabled Residents

Under the bright lights of Broomfield County's city hall, community leaders gathered to discuss vital transportation services that connect residents to essential resources. At the forefront of the conversation was the Easy Ride transit service, a lifeline for older adults and individuals with disabilities. This no-cost service, supported by the Denver Regional Council of Governments and local funds, facilitates approximately 20,000 trips each year, ensuring that those over 60 and adults with disabilities can navigate their community with ease.

In addition to Easy Ride, the Regional Transportation District (RTD) offers the Flex Ride service, a curb-to-curb transportation option available to all Broomfield residents. This service has become crucial, especially given the limited local route options. With the ability to make reservations via an app or a simple phone call, Flex Ride has seen significant growth in usage. Over the past two years, ridership has surged by 26% and then another 17%, culminating in over 32,000 trips last year alone.

Broomfield officials are not resting on their laurels. They have collaborated with the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) to enhance transit access further. A recent initiative introduced a seasonal bus service that connects Denver to Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park, with a new stop added in Broomfield. This affordable option, priced at $15 for a round trip, aims to make recreational areas more accessible to residents, with discounts available for seniors and children.

As the meeting progressed, officials highlighted ongoing studies, including a comprehensive Broomfield transit study, aimed at evaluating and improving transportation services in the area. With these initiatives, Broomfield County is not only addressing current transportation needs but also laying the groundwork for a more connected and accessible future for all its residents.
