City Parks Director White Details High Park Renovation Plans with New Amenities

Under the bright lights of Derby's city hall, excitement filled the air as community leaders gathered to discuss the much-anticipated renovations at High Park. The Planning Commission meeting on August 7, 2025, showcased plans that promise to transform the park into a vibrant hub for families and outdoor enthusiasts alike.

In addition to the splash pad, the plans include four new pickleball courts, with hopes to expand to eight, depending on budget constraints. The commission discussed the importance of lighting for these courts, acknowledging that evening play is a popular option for many residents. While lighting was not included in the initial budget, it remains a consideration for future enhancements.

Another key aspect of the renovation is the addition of exterior restrooms, a long-requested amenity that will provide convenience for park visitors. These durable, prefabricated units will be strategically located near the splash pad and pickleball courts, ensuring accessibility for all.

The meeting also addressed parking needs, with plans to expand existing lots to accommodate increased visitor traffic. The proposed improvements aim to enhance pedestrian connectivity throughout the park, making it easier for families to navigate between the new amenities.
