Sheriff Water outlines Jacksonville's public safety budget and community trust initiatives

The City of Jacksonville's Finance Committee convened on August 7, 2025, for the first budget hearing, focusing on the financial allocations for the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) and related public safety initiatives. Sheriff TK Waters addressed the committee, expressing gratitude for the city's support and emphasizing the importance of transparency in building community trust. He outlined the timeline for relocating to the Florida Blue Building, with plans for full occupancy by August 2026. The sheriff also discussed ongoing efforts to enhance community relations, including outreach programs aimed at young individuals at risk of criminal activity.

Committee members, including Councilman Ron Salem and Councilwoman Pittman, raised concerns about community trust and the JSO's engagement with residents. Sheriff Waters reassured the committee of his commitment to transparency and proactive community involvement, stating that the JSO is dedicated to maintaining public safety while fostering trust within the community.
