Wicomico County Education Foundation hosts first golf tournament fundraiser at Green Hill Country Club

Wicomico County is gearing up for its inaugural golf tournament fundraiser on October 3, hosted at Green Hill Country Club. The event aims to raise funds for the Wicomico Education Foundation, with various sponsorship levels available, ranging from $20 to $5,000. David Ennis will lead the organization of the tournament, which promises to be a fun day for participants, rain or shine.

The foundation is also focusing on enhancing educational opportunities for middle school students through its specialized academies. These include STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics), Communications, and Business and Entrepreneurship programs. The academies, now in their fourth year, provide students with unique learning experiences, including live sports reporting and entrepreneurship training. Enrollment is competitive, utilizing a lottery system for students outside their home schools.

Michelle Wright, Chair of the Wicomico Education Foundation, emphasized the importance of community involvement in supporting these initiatives. She encouraged parents and community members to volunteer for events like the golf tournament, highlighting that every contribution, whether time or financial support, is valuable.

Wright also discussed the foundation's efforts to raise awareness about its mission and activities.
