During the Urbandale Community School District School Board meeting on August 11, 2025, significant introductions marked the beginning of the new academic year. The board welcomed two new administrators, Emma Copeland and Lindsay Cornwell, who bring extensive experience to their roles.

Emma Copeland, who was unable to attend the meeting, will serve as a dean at the high school. She previously worked as a counselor and MTSS specialist at Johnston High School, indicating a strong background in student support and educational strategies.

Lindsay Cornwell, present at the meeting, shared her impressive educational journey. A graduate of the University of Northern Iowa (UNI), she has held various teaching and administrative positions, including a decade as principal at Johnston Elementary School. Cornwell expressed her enthusiasm for joining the Urbandale community and her eagerness to engage with middle school students, highlighting her commitment to fostering a supportive learning environment.

In addition to the new administrators, the board introduced four student representatives who will participate in upcoming meetings. Although two representatives, Sam Veeder and Kate Schumacher, were absent due to a choir event, Adrianna Wynn and Reese Brightwell were present. Both students expressed excitement about their roles and the opportunity to contribute to the board's discussions.

The meeting underscored the district's commitment to enhancing educational leadership and student involvement, setting a positive tone for the upcoming school year.
