Allen highlighted expanded summer feeding operations. “Our child nutrition department probably deserves a hearty, pat on the back because they were able to serve over 90,000 meals this summer to our summer feeding programs,” he said, adding that previous summer distributions averaged about 30,000 to 33,000 meals. Allen said district staff changed the distribution format and “tripled the amount of dinners and foods that we were able to provide for our community this year.”

On facilities work, Allen said operations staff and contractors completed a large number of projects over the summer and cited a report from district facilities staff estimating around $3,000,000 spent on summer projects. He framed the work as a major effort given the district’s size: “We maintain over 990 acres of property and about 2,300,000 square feet of buildings,” Allen said.

The superintendent singled out custodial, maintenance, technology services, child nutrition and contract staff for their work to prepare schools for the new year. He said the district had a plan to cover the remaining vacancies for the start of school.
