West Milford Lions Club Honors Peace Poster Contest Winners at Recognition Ceremony

Recognition took center stage at the West Milford Township Public Schools Board of Education meeting on January 28, 2025, as the West Milford Lions Club honored local students for their artistic achievements in the annual Peace Poster Contest.

John McCarthy, chairperson of the Lions Peace Poster Contest, presented awards to two standout students from Macapin Middle School. Andrew Vasopolo, a sixth grader, received a runner-up achievement award and a $25 check, while seventh grader Noelle Reaver took home first place, along with a $50 check. Reaver's poster, themed "Peace Without Limits," was so impressive that it also won first place at the state level, earning her a special award at the upcoming Lions District 16 meeting in April.

McCarthy praised the students' creativity and the school's commitment to the contest, which has been a tradition for over three decades. He expressed gratitude to the Macapin staff for their support in reinstating the contest as a class project, resulting in 144 submissions this year.

The meeting also highlighted other accomplishments within the district, including the recognition of West Milford High School's Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Burns, and the Educational Services Professional of the Year, Mrs. Lambert. Student achievements in various competitions were celebrated, showcasing the vibrant educational environment in West Milford.

As the meeting concluded, the board members emphasized the importance of these recognitions, noting that they reflect the positive impact on the community and the students' growth. The Lions Club's ongoing partnership with the schools continues to foster creativity and community spirit among the youth.
