Hays County Approves Two New Deputy Constables for Precinct 1

During a recent meeting in Hays County, officials discussed key budgetary decisions and welcomed new personnel aimed at enhancing community safety and transportation.

One of the primary topics was the proposed budget for fiscal year 2026, which includes funding for two full-time fire marshal positions. Vicki Dorset, the Hays County budget officer, explained that these roles, previously funded through a dedicated account, will now be supported by the general fund. This shift is intended to ensure the county can maintain essential fire safety services despite recent staffing challenges, including vacancies that have hindered operations.

In a significant move for local transportation, Orlando Gallegos, the new area engineer from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), addressed the meeting.
