Georgetown City Council Approves Eminent Domain for Williams Drive Intersection Improvements

Georgetown City Council has taken a significant step towards enhancing local infrastructure by approving a resolution to authorize the use of eminent domain for property acquisition necessary for the expansion of Williams Drive. During the meeting on August 12, 2025, council members voted 6-1 in favor of the resolution, which aims to improve the intersection at Williams Drive and Booty's Crossing Road.

The project will transform the current four-lane roadway into a five-lane divided road, complete with a raised median and revised turn lanes. This upgrade is part of the city's annual intersection improvement initiative, which seeks to enhance traffic flow and safety in the area. The property in question, located at 3204 Williams Drive, is currently occupied by a Walgreens store.

City officials reported that initial and final offers for the property were made to the owner, but no agreement has been reached, prompting the need for eminent domain proceedings. The council's approval allows the city to proceed with the necessary legal steps to acquire the property, ensuring that the construction timeline remains on track.

In addition to the eminent domain resolution, the council also discussed amendments to the city's water and wastewater impact fees. Changes were made to address the dormancy of preliminary plats, ensuring that developers must take action within a specified timeframe to keep their plats active. This adjustment aims to close loopholes that could delay development and impact fee assessments.
