School District Approves $900K for New Axis Camera Security System Installation

The USD 231 Board Meeting on July 15, 2025, focused on significant safety and security upgrades, particularly the installation of a new camera system across district facilities. Board member Mark DeWitt introduced the proposal, emphasizing the importance of the investment for both staff and the community.

The district has conducted a thorough evaluation of various camera systems and has recommended the Axis camera platform, known for its high-resolution imaging and multi-sensory capabilities. This system will integrate seamlessly with the district's existing video management infrastructure, enhancing overall security.

A request for proposals was issued to 15 qualified vendors, resulting in 10 submissions. After careful evaluation, Electronic Technologies Inc. (ETI) was selected as the lowest responsible bidder, with a base bid of $900,777. The finance committee reviewed and endorsed this bid during their meeting on July 7.

The installation of the new camera system is set to begin later this month and will cover 19 district sites, providing over 1,100 unique camera views. The project is designed to deliver comprehensive interior and exterior surveillance without requiring any annual subscriptions or software updates. Although the camera system is expected to last between 7 to 10 years, the district plans to budget for replacements starting in year five.
