Quincy Council Approves Townhouse Development at 141 School Street Amid Community Support

The Quincy Planning Board meeting on August 6, 2025, focused on a proposed infill project at 141 School Street, which aims to develop four townhouse units. The project is notable for its unique site configuration, which includes significant grade changes and a pedestrian entrance from the sidewalk, making it a fitting addition to the neighborhood.

The proposed townhouses will each feature approximately 1,600 square feet, with three bedrooms and three and a half bathrooms. The design includes a garage level that accommodates two cars per unit, with living spaces above. Each unit will also have access to an outdoor deck, enhancing the living experience for future residents.

During the meeting, Michael Kiley from Harish Companies indicated that the units could be developed as either apartments or condominiums, depending on market conditions at the time of completion. The project has received positive feedback from neighboring property owners, including the owner of a nearby single-family home and the owner of a 20-unit building, both of whom expressed support for the development.

Board members acknowledged the need for improvements in the area and praised the design, which incorporates traditional architectural elements and materials that align with the character of the neighborhood. Concerns regarding parking were addressed, with plans for nine parking spaces, including a designated guest spot. The board emphasized the importance of managing parking effectively to avoid inconveniencing neighbors.

The meeting concluded with a recommendation from the planning department to approve the site plan and special permit for the project, contingent upon specific conditions. This development is seen as a significant step toward revitalizing the area and enhancing the community's housing options.
