UCI Print Shop Offers Apprenticeships and Full Service Printing Solutions

In a recent government meeting focused on "Unlocking Potential, Printing Futures," Chris Coffin, supervisor of the UCI Print Shop, highlighted the transformative role of the print shop in providing vocational training for inmates. The print shop employs between 40 to 60 inmates, offering them a chance to learn valuable skills that can aid their reintegration into society.

Coffin detailed the range of products produced at the shop, from letterhead and business cards to large-format banners and canvases. This diverse output not only showcases the capabilities of the print shop but also reflects the comprehensive training inmates receive. They learn mechanical skills through operating offset presses and gain computer proficiency with graphic design and RIP software.

A key component of the program is the UCI apprenticeship initiative, which includes eight graphic design apprentices. This program aims to equip offenders with both technical and soft skills, such as communication and teamwork.
