Separately, Dr. Melissa Lee, senior director of personalized student success, reported Humble ISD students earned over 1,500 industry-based certifications last year — up by nearly 600 from the previous year. “A 100% of our students in our brand-new dental assistant program earned their dental assistant permits,” Lee said. She also reported that 97% of cosmetology students earned their cosmetology licenses and that many students earned two or more certifications.

The board recognized Harrison Alexander, a recent Humble High School graduate, for earning both the CompTIA ITF and CompTIA A+ certifications — credentials used by industry employers. Teacher Scott Ford and teacher Christie Ford joined trustees in commending the district’s CTE instructors. “These kids are working their butts off,” Scott Ford said, noting students who may not thrive in traditional academic programs can find career pathways through CTE courses.

Purvis told the board the foundation has awarded more than $1,400,000 in student scholarships in total and that the foundation’s lifetime support for Humble ISD now totals $20,600,000.

The foundation told trustees that operating expenses accounted for roughly 7.7% of revenues and that 30% of net proceeds are directed to an endowment that currently stands at $2,400,000. Purvis said the foundation’s intent is to grow that endowment to $5,000,000 and then spend scholarship and grant dollars from interest earned.
