McLeod County Board Approves Mental Health Grant and Building Maintenance Projects

McLeod County is set to enhance its mental health services and improve public facilities following key decisions made during the Board Meeting on August 5, 2025.

The Board approved a significant grant contract with the Minnesota Department of Human Services, securing $610,988 to fund mental health crisis services in the county from July 1, 2025, to December 31, 2026. This funding will be administered by Canvas Health, which will provide essential services such as telephonic crisis triage, intervention, and mobile crisis response. Commissioner Schmalz expressed satisfaction with the approval, noting it brings the county closer to completing necessary transitions in mental health services.

In addition, the Board approved a contract for children's mental health clinical supervision with Sarah Lynn Pazier, following the unfortunate passing of the previous provider. This contract, valued at $13,200, will ensure that children's case managers receive the required supervision to effectively manage care plans.

The meeting also addressed public works initiatives, including the approval to advertise bids for the removal of structures at Stalls Lake Park, which aims to eliminate hazards and clean up the area. Furthermore, the Board approved the sale of approximately 730 rocks and boulders from county parks for $3,650, a move aimed at reducing maintenance burdens.

Lastly, the Board approved a quote for an acoustics project at the McLeod County Fairgrounds' Century Hall, which will address sound issues that have hindered event experiences. This project will be funded through the American Rescue Plan Act.
