City Approves $9.68M Storage Facility Near PAC and Fire Rescue Project Change Orders

In a recent meeting of the Columbia County Development and Planning Services Committee, significant steps were taken to enhance local facilities and services, directly benefiting the community.

One of the key discussions centered around the approval of a new storage facility adjacent to the Public Activity Center (PAC). This project, which comes with a budget of $9.68 million, aims to address the PAC's storage needs that became apparent shortly after its construction. The facility is expected to streamline operations and improve service delivery at the PAC, with construction slated to be completed within 425 days. The committee expressed enthusiasm for the project, with staff recommending its approval.

Another important item on the agenda was the final change order for the Fire Rescue 2 replacement project. This change order, amounting to $44,364.57, accounts for unforeseen expenses that arose during the final stages of construction, including necessary signage and electrical provisions. The project has now been completed, and the additional time requested will extend the contract by 87 days, ensuring all aspects are properly addressed.

Lastly, the committee discussed an independent contract agreement with Trane Controls for retro-commissioning HVAC systems in Building C, which houses the tax commissioner and IT departments. The contract, valued at $249,383, will facilitate the replacement of outdated HVAC units and improve energy efficiency in the building. This initiative is part of a broader effort to modernize county facilities and ensure they meet current standards.
