Airport Plans Include New Hangars and Industrial Development Near Highway 3

Port Orchard's City Council meeting on August 12, 2025, highlighted significant developments at the local airport, which is poised for expansion and increased activity. The airport, currently featuring a 6,000-foot runway capable of accommodating military aircraft like the 737, has seen substantial investment over the past decade, totaling $20 million, with 90% of funding sourced from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Council members discussed plans to enhance airport facilities, including the construction of three corporate hangars and 20 general aviation hangars. This initiative aims to address the current demand, as the airport operates approximately 64,000 takeoffs and landings annually. The port authority is leveraging private sector partnerships to fund these expansions, minimizing the financial burden on local taxpayers.

In addition to airport improvements, the council reviewed the development of Airport Industrial Way, a new thoroughfare that will connect Highway 3 and unlock 1,500 acres of industrial land for future projects. A notable development under consideration is Skypark, which will feature two 50,000 square foot buildings and two 20,000 square foot buildings, providing businesses with direct access to the airport's taxiway and hangars.
