Hamilton County Marks Growth in Veteran Services Ahead of Appreciation Day

During the Hamilton County Commissioners Staff Meeting on August 12, 2025, significant strides were highlighted in the county's support for veterans, showcasing a commitment to enhancing services and community engagement.

Commissioner Reese opened the discussion by expressing gratitude for the progress made in veteran services over the past five years. He acknowledged the collaborative efforts that led to the formation of partnerships aimed at improving outreach and support for veterans in Hamilton County.

A key focus of the meeting was the upcoming second annual Hamilton County Veterans and Military Appreciation Day, scheduled for August 23. This event aims to provide veterans with direct access to essential services, including claims assistance from veteran service officers. The initiative is expected to attract over 1,200 veterans, offering them a "one-stop shop" for benefits and support, alongside free food and entertainment for families.

Director Sanza of the Veterans Service Commission (VSC) provided a midyear update, noting a remarkable increase in staffing from six to eighteen employees, enabling the VSC to better serve the county's 38,000 veterans. New programs, including dental and vision services, have been introduced, along with expanded transportation options for veterans attending medical appointments.

Commissioner Reseni emphasized the importance of the event and the growth of the VSC, highlighting the largest budget in county history dedicated to veteran services. He encouraged all veterans and military personnel to participate in the upcoming appreciation day, reinforcing the county's commitment to supporting those who have served.

As the meeting concluded, the commissioners expressed their appreciation for the hard work of the VSC and the interns who have contributed to the county's efforts.
