Lawrence Parks Department Plans Flag Football and Soccer for Ages 4 to 14

The City of Lawrence is set to enhance its youth sports offerings with the introduction of flag football and soccer programs for children aged 3 to 14. During a recent government meeting, officials announced that these activities will take place simultaneously, allowing families to engage in multiple sports on the same day. The flag football program will cater to ages 4 to 14, while soccer will be available for younger children aged 3 to 6.

In addition to traditional sports, the city is exploring new programming options, including DJing and photography clinics aimed at engaging children in creative activities. These initiatives are part of a broader effort to diversify recreational offerings beyond sports, recognizing the interests of today’s youth.

Upcoming community events were also discussed, including a movie day scheduled for August 29 at the Cultural Campus, following a rescheduling from an earlier date. The city will host several events in September, such as Barbecue and Blues on September 13 and Loggers in Lawrence on September 20. However, the Dia Latina de Lawrence event has been canceled for this year.

The Farmer's Market continues to thrive, with a successful recent event that attracted around 50 vendors and a large audience, bolstered by live coverage from Wish TV. The market will run every Thursday from October 2, from 4 to 7 PM.

Additionally, a new yoga program aimed at seniors will begin on the last Friday of each month, offering chair yoga sessions that are open to all ages. This initiative reflects the city’s commitment to promoting health and wellness among its residents.

As the city prepares for a busy fall season, officials are actively seeking sponsorships to support these programs and events. The community is encouraged to contribute ideas and connections to potential sponsors to enhance the city’s recreational offerings.
