Historic District Approves Installation of Benches and Planters Along Hill Avenue

The Victorian Village Commission has approved a significant application to enhance public spaces along the Avenue, allowing for the installation and maintenance of seven benches, 17 planters, and one recycling receptacle at 16 designated sites. This decision, made during a special meeting on August 13, 2025, aims to improve the aesthetic and functional aspects of the area, particularly near bus stops and intersections.

Jack Decker, president of the local civic association, presented the application, highlighting the historical context of the existing benches and planters, which were originally acquired during the AmeriFlora exhibition in 1992. Decker emphasized the importance of maintaining these community features, noting that recent volunteer efforts have revitalized the benches with new wood and paint.

The commission's approval was based on compliance with city codes regarding site improvements and historic preservation standards. Staff members expressed support for the proposed locations, indicating they align well with the neighborhood's character.
