Forney Learning Academy Set to Open with New Facilities and Updated Projects

The Forney Independent School District (ISD) Board of Trustees convened on August 11, 2025, to discuss several key updates regarding ongoing projects and educational goals. During the meeting, Associate Superintendent of Operations, Kim Worsak, provided an overview of current construction projects. Additionally, the construction of Elementary Number 12 at Las Olmos is progressing well, with essential site work underway. The new Forney transportation facility is also making strides, with dirt work and grading nearly finished. Furthermore, the Gail Wilson Way expansion is advancing, with utility work and concrete preparations in progress.

In terms of educational performance, Chief of Innovation Robin Pierce presented the annual board goal report, emphasizing the district's focus on college, career, and military readiness. For college readiness, Forney ISD reported a 12% increase in students meeting the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standards compared to previous projections. However, the district faced a slight decline in career readiness, with efforts underway to enhance industry-based certifications among students, particularly targeting juniors.

Military readiness remains a challenge, but the district is taking proactive steps by increasing the number of ASVAB tests offered and inviting more military recruiters to career readiness events. The board also reviewed early literacy goals, noting improvements in reading proficiency among younger students, particularly in first and second grades.
