Christmas in the Park is set for December 6, 2025, but the Parks and Recreation Board is facing challenges in staffing the event's popular ice slide. During a recent meeting, board members discussed the need for volunteers after discovering that all hired attendees for the slide were already booked.
"We're going to probably do our usual strategy of trying to find some volunteers or some students or some teenagers that need volunteer hours," one board member stated, emphasizing the urgency to organize help early. The board is actively seeking connections for local youth to assist, as they currently lack assigned staff for the slide.
The conversation also touched on the possibility of utilizing community service participants from the sheriff's department, although concerns about background checks were raised. "It was just a thought. Trying to think out of the box," one member noted, highlighting the board's creative approach to solving staffing issues.
In addition to staffing, the board discussed logistical details, including the setup of barriers around the ice slide to ensure safety. Suggestions included using rebar and rope to create a secure perimeter, reminiscent of past events like the Easter egg hunt.
As the event date approaches, the board is calling on the community for support. "Anyone at home would like to listen into our YouTube video and volunteer or call your neighbors?" they encouraged, aiming to rally local involvement for a successful Christmas celebration.
