County Engineers Discuss Roundabout Design for Heavy Vehicle Traffic Management

Clark County officials addressed community concerns regarding the upcoming roundabout at NE 179th Street and NE 29th Avenue during a public works meeting on August 14, 2025. The discussion highlighted the roundabout's design, which aims to accommodate both residential and commercial traffic, including large vehicles like semi-trucks.

Dave Daley, the county's engineering construction division manager, reassured attendees that extensive planning has gone into ensuring the roundabout can handle various vehicle sizes. "We've designed it to accommodate passenger vehicles, recreational vehicles, and heavy semi-truck vehicles," Daley stated, emphasizing the careful engineering behind the project.

Project manager Scott Sawyer added that the design allows larger trucks to use both lanes when navigating the roundabout. He cautioned drivers to be mindful of this, advising, "If you're coming to that intersection next to a truck, you're gonna need to let them have that."

The meeting underscored the importance of community input in shaping infrastructure projects, as residents expressed their concerns about traffic flow and safety. With the new logistics warehouse nearby, the county is committed to ensuring that the roundabout meets the needs of all road users.
