Indianapolis Unveils $3.5M Upgrades to Historic Washington Park

On August 13, 2025, the City Council of Indianapolis celebrated significant improvements to Washington Park, a historic green space that has served the community for over a century. Washington Park has a rich history, once home to the original Indianapolis Zoo and a venue for cultural events like the Indianapolis Black Expo. Today, it stands as a vital recreational area for residents of Martindale Brightwood and surrounding neighborhoods. The recent upgrades include a new playground, splash pad, event space, and improved parking facilities, all designed to attract more families and foster community engagement.

Mayor Joe Hogsett emphasized the importance of these enhancements, stating that they represent a broader transformation of Indianapolis's park system.
