City Plans Improvements on 5500 West Road Ahead of S R 177 Construction

The Hooper City Planning Commission held a work meeting on August 15, 2025, focusing on the upcoming road improvements along 5500 West, a critical thoroughfare in the area. The city has secured funding to widen this road, with construction expected to begin either this fall or next spring. This project is part of a long-term plan initiated in 2020, aimed at enhancing traffic flow and safety in anticipation of increased congestion due to nearby road construction on State Route 177.

The commission discussed the phased approach to the improvements, which will include the installation of curbs, gutters, and sidewalks along 5500 West. The first phase will extend from 4200 South to the end of 5500 West, while the next phase will cover the stretch from 5500 South to the Davis County line. Future plans include applying for additional funding to continue improvements from 5100 South to 4200 South.

An open house is scheduled for August 20, where residents can learn more about the project and ask questions. This event will precede a public hearing, allowing community members to voice their concerns and suggestions regarding the road enhancements. The commission emphasized the importance of these improvements, particularly for school children who currently face safety risks due to the lack of sidewalks and the presence of open drainage ditches.
