Saint Mary Parish School Board Celebrates Summer Graduates and Red Ribbon Contest Winners

The St. Mary Parish School Board convened on August 14, 2025, for a regular meeting, beginning with a full quorum of members present. The meeting commenced with an invocation, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance, setting a respectful tone for the evening.

Next, the board recognized Miss Stephanie Gautreaux as the newly appointed assistant principal at Berwick Junior High, who also could not be present.

Dr. Sanders introduced the contest, which promotes drug awareness and will take place from October 27 to October 31. He expressed gratitude to Miss Gidget Everett, Miss Fallon Mitchell, and Miss Stacy Burke for their contributions to organizing the event and producing materials.

The contest began with a slogan competition, and the winner, Stanley Oakley from Berwick High School, was announced. His slogan, "Life is a canvas painted with dreams," will be featured on promotional materials, and he received a $100 cash prize and a t-shirt.

Additionally, Miss Laurie Buto, a gifted and talented teacher, was recognized as the grand champion of the art contest. Her artwork will be featured on the cover of the calendar and the official t-shirt, and she also received a $100 cash prize and a framed version of her artwork.

The meeting concluded with the presentation of calendars and certificates to the monthly winners of the art contest, celebrating their creativity and contributions to the Red Ribbon initiative. Overall, the meeting emphasized the board's commitment to recognizing student achievements and promoting community engagement through educational programs.
