Celico Workforce Development Board addresses economic challenges in Southeast Los Angeles County

Sandra Michel, Deputy Director of the Southeast Los Angeles County Workforce Development Board, known as Celico, took the stage to highlight the organization's commitment to empowering residents across eight cities, including Artesia and Downey. She expressed gratitude to Assemblymember Jose Luis Olache for facilitating this important dialogue, emphasizing the economic pressures that families endure daily, from soaring housing costs to rising grocery prices.

Celico's mission is clear: to connect residents with quality jobs that offer competitive wages and growth opportunities. Michel outlined their focus on high-demand sectors such as advanced manufacturing, healthcare, and skilled trades, aiming to equip job seekers with the necessary skills for today’s economy. In the past year, Celico successfully placed over 800 residents into jobs averaging $26 an hour, a testament to their effective training programs and community partnerships.

"If we want to help families not just survive, but thrive," she stated, "we must connect these dots."
