DeSoto Financial Report Shows Sales Tax Lagging Behind Regional Trends

DeSoto's City Council reviewed the city's financial status during a special meeting on August 18, 2025, revealing a mixed fiscal picture as the year approaches its end. The general fund revenue stands at 90.7% of the budget, slightly down from 94% at the same time last year. Property tax collections are nearly complete at 97.2%, but sales tax revenue is lagging at 66.8%, prompting concerns among council members about broader economic trends affecting the region.

City officials noted that sales tax collections are typically a lagging indicator, and this year, they are tracking behind expectations not only for DeSoto but also for neighboring cities.
