Duval Center Expands Services with New Staff and Seasonal Sports Programs

During the recent meeting of the Highlands Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, officials highlighted the growing engagement of the community with local recreational services. The front desk at the Duval Center has seen an impressive average of over 300 visits per month, not accounting for additional interactions through phone calls and emails. This surge in activity has prompted the addition of part-time recreation assistants, enhancing service delivery and ensuring that community needs are met effectively.

The board announced plans to further bolster staffing with an additional part-time assistant, which will provide eight hours of coverage five days a week. This move aims to improve the overall experience for visitors and streamline operations at the center.

In addition to front desk activities, the Duval Center has been actively hosting various programs, including ShotKhan Karate classes, which are reportedly at full capacity. The center has also recorded 21 reservations for evening and weekend events, indicating a strong demand for community space, even before marketing efforts have fully launched.

The upcoming fall season will see the introduction of youth and adult sports activities, including flag football, soccer, baseball, softball, and adult kickball. These programs are expected to further engage residents and promote physical activity within the community.

Moreover, the board acknowledged the interest in senior programming, with many visitors inquiring about available activities for older adults.
