City Manager Jones unveils Missouri City's $255.6M fiscal year 2026 proposed budget

Missouri City is gearing up for a transformative fiscal year 2026, with a proposed budget of $255.6 million that promises to enhance public safety, infrastructure, and community services. During a recent city council meeting, interim Chief Financial Officer Bertha Alexander outlined key components of the budget, which will be officially filed on August 25 and made available online.

City Manager Angel Jones emphasized the budget's alignment with strategic goals aimed at fostering growth and innovation. Notably, the budget includes $101.3 million for general operations and $42 million earmarked for capital projects, reflecting a commitment to maintaining the current tax rate while investing in the city's future.

The proposed budget also highlights significant investments in public safety, with the Missouri City Police Department planning to expand technology and community engagement initiatives. Assistant Police Chief Jaston Heard noted the department's achievements in training and inclusivity, including its status as the first Texas law enforcement agency to become a certified autism center.

Fire Chief Jonathan Sabers shared that the fire department will continue to enhance emergency response capabilities, supported by funding for staffing and equipment improvements. The budget also allocates resources for public works, focusing on infrastructure upgrades and traffic safety enhancements.

Community engagement is a priority, with a budget workshop scheduled for August 23, allowing residents to provide input on the proposed financial plan. The city aims to ensure that the budget reflects the needs and aspirations of its residents, setting the stage for a brighter future in Missouri City. A public hearing and budget adoption are set for September 15, marking a crucial step in the city's financial planning process.
