Fort Pierce City Commission Approves Conditional Use for Aspatria College Expansion

The Fort Pierce City Commission held a regular meeting on August 18, 2025, where several key topics were discussed, including the approval of a conditional use application for a new medical college and updates on local infrastructure.

One of the most significant discussions centered around the conditional use application submitted by Aspatria Institute, which plans to operate Aspatria College at 1404 South 28th Street. The proposal involves no new construction but aims to repurpose an existing building previously used as a medical center. The college will offer diploma programs and associate degrees, with classes scheduled from Monday to Saturday between 8 AM and 10 PM. The planning department recommended approval of the application, which was unanimously supported by the commission with two conditions regarding signage and landscaping maintenance.

Commissioner Broderick expressed strong support for the project, highlighting its potential to enhance the community by repurposing an existing facility and improving the area’s landscape. The applicant, Dr. Jose Garcia, emphasized the need for medical staffing in the region and the college's role in addressing that need.

In addition to the college application, the commission also discussed an ordinance related to the Mill Creek plan development. This ordinance involves amending zoning regulations for a parcel of land to facilitate the final site plan approval for Mill Creek PD Pod 2. This item was a continuation from a previous meeting and is part of ongoing efforts to manage local development effectively.
