Fort Pierce Solid Waste Division Discusses New Fee Structure and Service Challenges

Fort Pierce city officials are taking significant steps to enhance solid waste management services, as discussed during the City Commission Regular Meeting on August 18, 2025. The proposed changes include a $5 increase in the monthly solid waste fee, raising it from $29 to $34. This adjustment is designed to cover the costs associated with waste collection, particularly for yard debris and bulk items. Residents will now be charged $6 for each cubic yard of yard debris exceeding the four cubic yard limit, while bulk debris will incur a fee of $10 for every two cubic yards. New QR codes on waste collection trucks will direct residents to a landing page with essential information, including route schedules and frequently asked questions.

The meeting also addressed the need for additional personnel to manage waste collection effectively. City officials are working with human resources to fill vacant positions, particularly in the solid waste mechanics department, to enhance operational efficiency.
