Westminster Awards Grants for Park Projects and Expands Butterfly Pavilion Vision

A significant focus of the recent Westminster City Council meeting was the announcement of substantial funding for local parks and community initiatives. The city proudly reported receiving three major grants from Adams County, totaling over $3 million, aimed at enhancing recreational spaces and promoting sustainability.

Bishop Square Park is set to receive $1.5 million for improvements, including accessible pads, a redesigned playground, and stormwater controls, with construction expected to begin in early 2026. Additionally, Municipal Court Park will benefit from a $1.4 million grant to create a new park featuring walking paths and shade trees, with installation tentatively scheduled for mid-2027. The Westminster parks and open space team also secured $20,845 for the electrification of park maintenance equipment, transitioning from gas-powered tools to battery-operated alternatives, aligning with state environmental regulations.

In another highlight, the Butterfly Pavilion's leadership presented their vision for expansion, emphasizing their commitment to remaining in Westminster. The Pavilion, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, aims to enhance its facilities to better serve the community and attract more visitors. Plans include a potential northern expansion to create new exhibits and improve parking, reinforcing the Pavilion's role as a cultural and educational hub.

The meeting also featured updates on the Citizen Police Academy, which begins this week, and a community update scheduled for the following evening, where residents can engage with city leaders on public safety and quality of life issues.
