Simi Valley completes major fiber optic network construction plan by 2025

During the recent City Council meeting in Simi Valley, significant updates were provided regarding the ongoing fiber optic network project, which aims to enhance internet connectivity across the city. The project, initiated in 2021 by the company Sci Fi, is nearing completion and promises to deliver high-speed internet options to all residents and businesses.

The fiber optic network, which operates entirely on fiber optics, is designed to offer internet speeds of up to 10 gigabits per second. Notably, the project has been executed without any cost to taxpayers, generating over 200 city permits that have positively impacted local revenue.

As of now, approximately 30% of the city has access to the network, with plans to significantly increase serviceability in the coming months. The company has doubled its installation crews to meet rising demand, projecting an 11% increase in live addresses by the end of August, followed by 21% in September and 27% in October. By the end of 2025, the goal is to have 99% of the city connected.

The construction has been divided into 16 work zones, with specific areas scheduled to go live soon. For instance, residents in the Wood Ranch area can expect service availability by the end of August, while those near Atterwood Park will be connected by Halloween.

As the project approaches its conclusion, Sci Fi is ramping up efforts to ensure a smooth installation process for residents and businesses. The company has reported a 100% success rate in installations thus far, reflecting the dedication of their installation teams.

Deputy Public Works Director Brent Seymour has played a crucial role in facilitating the project, ensuring that the needs of both the city and the fiber network initiative are met. As the city prepares for widespread access to high-speed internet, the completion of this project is expected to significantly bridge the digital divide in Simi Valley, enhancing connectivity for all residents.
